Fighting against rising epidemic obesity is a national warfare declared by Morris County NJ personal trainer, fitness expert and diet coach Care Yang.
Obese Pot Belly
National obesity rate keeps rising with no stop in sight. According to new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 32 million more Americans will become obese by 2030, upping obesity rates to 42 percent of the U.S. population
The report also predicts that the proportion of Americans who are severely obese, meaning more than 100 pounds overweight, will reach 11 percent, about double the current rate. The damage is $550 billion of obesity-related health care costs that can be used to build national infrastructure, improve education, enhance job skills training, reduce unemployment rate, and stimulate economy.
“This is a sad story to read,” says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
About 34 percent of adults are currently obese, creating a whole host of expensive, chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
“This is a war and we have to fight together as a nation,” Yang says. “It has to start with youth. We know that about 50 percent of severe obesity in adults is consequence of obesity in childhood. Currently about 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese.”
Yang says, we have so many government agencies, non-profit organizations, communities and schools involved to fight both adult and childhood obesity with a variety of programs. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama early this year launched a campaign to fight childhood obesity by improving childhood nutrition and physical activity.
“Nutrition and exercise start from home. Parents hold the key to educating their children,” Yang says. “Parents should be good role models for their children. If your children see you slouch in front of the tube and dig into a bag of chips along with a bottle of beer, it’s hard to resist the same lifestyle. Chunky Mom, plus chunky Dad, often equals chunky kids and pets.”
Yang advocates parents and family involvements in fighting against obesity. Health and fitness is truly a family matter. He offers a few solutions to promoting active lifestyle and making healthy choices.
1. Be a positive role model. Parents have to set a good example for themselves and for their children such as regular exercise, being active and eating a healthy balanced die.
2. Set family time to prepare meals and exercise together. Research shows that families eating and exercising together also stay closer.
3. Assign household chores. Children can learn the value of responsibility by sharing active household chores while increasing physical activity.
4. Limit sedentary activities. Watching TV and playing electronic games have taken so much time and opportunity out of moving around and exercising. Studies have shown that reducing TV time is associated with reductions in body weight and body fat.
It’s a day-to-day process and a series of repeated small steps that add up to awesome health habits. “Every time you choose the vegetables over the chips, a walk over a drive, and an active game over T.V., you’ve just made another donation to yourself and to your families lifetime health and fitness fund,” Yang says.

About 32 million more Americans will become obese by 2030, upping obesity rates to 42 percent of the U.S. population, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The report also predicts that the proportion of Americans who are severely obese, meaning more than 100 pounds overweight, will reach 11 percent, about double the current rate.
The report’s authors give a sobering price tag for these predictions: such an increase would create $550 billion of obesity-related health care costs.
Eric Finkelstein, one of the authors of the report, said the prospect of such increasing rates, particularly those of severely obese Americans, is alarming since efforts aimed at helping people lose weight have so far proven relatively ineffective.
“Their weight continues to increase. Over the last 10 years, it has gone up tremendously,” he said in a press conference. “This is a group at great risk of health complications, and yet they are increasing at an even greater rate than the rate of obesity.”
The report was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and was released at the CDC’s Weight of the Nation conference today, a gathering focused on the impact of the obesity epidemic. The authors analyzed data collected from each state and made projections based on a number of factors influencing obesity rates, including the cost of healthy and unhealthy foods, gas prices and Internet access.
“Predicting obesity is tricky and no one variable showed up as causing obesity,” Finkelstein said.
Although recent data suggest that rates of obesity have reached a plateau, current rates of obesity are still alarmingly high. About 34 percent of adults are currently obese, creating a whole host of expensive, chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
The report’s authors said a number of factors could lead to the predicted rise in obesity. About two-thirds of Americans are currently overweight and could continue to gain weight and move into the obese category.
Dr. William Dietz, one of the study’s authors and director of the CDC’s division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, also noted that children who are currently overweight or obese will likely be a major source of the increasing rates.
“We know that about 50 percent of severe obesity in adults is consequence of obesity in childhood,” he said.
Currently about 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese.
Anti-obesity measures such as better urban design, access to recreational facilities, workplace health promotion and new drugs could help reign in the problem, the authors noted.
Weight loss is not just a matter of calories in and calories out. There are many factors that contribute to weight loss or weight gain. Addressing only the calories leaves you vulnerable to a disappointing weight loss or weight regain. It can leave you in a metabolic mess. Let’s explore the less well known keys to weight loss success.
Weight loss success factors: DISMISS Weight
Detoxification:All herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals or other toxins you ingest are not completely eliminated. In our industrialized society of processed foods that are sprayed with chemicals, watered with acid rain, contaminated with metals, PCB’s and BPA’s , these are not completely eliminated and build up in your fat. Toxins interfere with weight loss, as your body does not readily release fats where they are stored away for safety. It’s a protective mechanism. Increasing elimination of these through detoxifying herbs such as dandelion, milk thistle, chlorella, sulforaphane, broccoli seed extract and antioxidants such as N-acetyl cysteine, alpha lipoic acid, green tea extract and others can safely remove these toxins. Combined with decreasing toxin intake, eating whole, organic, non-processed foods can release those stubborn pounds.
Inflammation: Intake of quality food is important. Saturated and trans fats cause inflammation that keep the flames of weight gain burning. Put out the fire with fats that flow: anything that can be made into an oil like fish, nuts, seeds, olives, avocados and their oils will decrease inflammation that fuels weight gain.
Sleep is a big factor in weight loss. Growth hormone, the hormone that promotes lean body mass, is made while you sleep. Getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep is key to shedding pounds. If you have trouble sleeping, try melatonin, or an herbal combination of chamomile, hops, valerian and/or passion flower. Others would benefit from 5 HTP (5 hydroxytryptophan) the precursor to serotonin.
Mindfulness: Most often people don’t eat because they are hungry. People tend to be emotional or mindless eaters. If you eat fast, are distracted and don’t plan your portions, chances are you will overeat. Eating slowly, chewing and tasting your food and measuring out or “eyeballing” portions enables your brain to register that it is getting food will turn off the hunger hormone ghrelin.
Intake: Portions do matter. Americans tend to supersize everything, especially food. Protein portions can be measured by the size and thickness of your palm, a dense vegetable like broccoli’s serving size is a fist, starchy vegetables or grains like potato or corn or breads, pasta or rice would be half a fist and a serving of oil would be your thumb or nuts or cheese 6 dice.
Stress is a major culprit causing the inability to lose weight. It raises cortisol, which raises blood sugar, which raises insulin all causing a spare tire around your waist. The swings in blood sugar results in mood swings as well as cravings. This is a vicious cycle that – unless broken by reframing your reactions, treating the underlying cause and breaking the pattern with relaxation and stress reduction strategies – makes weight loss a lost cause. Try deep slow breathing, stretching, yoga, tai chi, meditation, prayer and/or relaxing hobbies. Find a time and place to “distress” daily. Cut out the sugary and starchy foods that make things worse and continue the cycle.
Supplements can aid in weight loss. Avoid the fads and use those that help your overall health. Studies showed that adequate vitamin D and good bacteria aid weight loss. Everyone can benefit from supplementing with Vitamin D at least 2,000 IU per day as well as a probiotic containing at least 2 billion cfu. Fiber is essential to good health and can make you feel fuller longer. Other supplements should be tailored to your unique metabolism.
New Jersey celebrity personal trainer, fitness expert and diet coach Carey Yang scoffs at the recent K-E Diet craze for extreme weight loss as a threat to public health leaving medicine, practice, ethics and greed at the cross roads.
“Lose 20 pounds in 10 days” is the big promise made by the most recent fad diet called “K-E Diet” or the “feeding-tube diet.” The K-E Diet was featured in a New York Times article involving a nasogastric tube inserted through the nose and down into the esophagus for up to 10 days. The diet consists of a slow drip of protein and fat mixed with water, totaling 800 calories per day with no carbohydrates.
The 10-day weight loss treatment costs $1500 and can result in the shedding of up to 20 pounds through ketosis, where the body burns fat instead of sugar.
K-E Diet Bridal Feeding Tube
The K-E Diet went viral in the news, TV and social media, particularly in the wedding weight loss industry. “I have many clients and friends asking me about the K-E Diet or extreme wedding weight loss diet,” says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
“Allow me to set the record straight, anyone or anything that promises you to lose 20 pounds in 10 days should raise the big red-flag warning. You should check the FTC rules for claim violations.” Yang says.
“After reading the NY Times article, watching TV news coverage, and watching their YouTube video, all I can say is that the doctor and the K-E Diet put the patient’s health in danger, dispense distorted health information, misuse nutritional guidance, exploit the brides-to-be’s desperate vulnerability for quick weight loss before wedding, and watch their profit before the patient’s pocket,” Yang says. “This truly put nutrition science, medical practice, ethics and greed at the crossroads.”
Some of known and cited side effects of the K-E Diet are constipation, bad breath, dizziness, kidney stones, dehydration, and headaches. “It’s like the Atkins diet on a feeding tube, ” Yang says.
“This type of weight loss lunacy gotta stop!” Yang comments.

A new extreme weight loss diet , The K-E Diet, featured in a recent New York Times article, involves having a nasogastric tube inserted through the nose and down into the esophagus for up to 10 days. The diet consists of a slow drip of protein and fat mixed with water, totaling 800 calories per day with no carbohydrates.
Does it sound similar? It’s like the Atkins Diet in a feeding tube.
The 10-day weight loss treatment costs $1500 and can result in the shedding of up to 20 pounds through ketosis, where the body burns fat instead of sugar.
In order to fit their fabulous wedding gowns and look their best on wedding days, many brides-to-be go on all kinds of crash diets to lose 10 to 20 pounds quickly without realizing the side effects and the long-term impact on their health.
“For crying out loud, this is a biggest loser’s hunger game,” says Carey Yang, a certified personal trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
The K-E Diet involves no hospitalization or doctor supervision – simply a bag filled with the food solution and a tube inserted into the nose.
“I smell the conflict of interest in medicine, medical practice, ethics, and greed.” Yang says. ”It’s a rip-off!”
“You can lose weight on 800-calorie-a-day diet by yourself although it’s below the safe daily calorie intake recommended by FDA and dietitians,” Yang says. “And you’ll be likely to lose muscle and water. When you resume your regular diet and calorie intake, you will gain all the weight back plus some.”
Some of known and cited side effects are constipation, bad breath, dizziness, kidney stones, dehydration, and headaches. “It’s like the Atkins diet on a feeding tube,” Yang says.
“How can a normal, well person allow the doctor to stick a feed tube in their nose?” Yang questions.
Naso-gastric tubes are only used for patients who are unable to eat enough such as people who are in a coma, have had a stroke, or have a serious illness that keeps them from being able to get enough nutrition by chewing and swallowing their food. There can be issues from tube irritation in the esophagus, and in some cases the tube can be accidentally placed (or accidentally moved after being placed properly) and end up in the lung. When the feeding formula goes into the lung it usually results in pneumonia.
Yang says, “if you can’t lose weight by eating right, exercising regularly and taking on a healthy lifestyle, no fad diet can help you in the long term.”
“I have trained and coached brides-to-be before. If you want to look your best on your wedding day, start early. Use this opportunity to learn how to eat a healthy diet, learn about your relationship with food, learn how to work out and strengthen your body the right way .” Yang says.
“The choice is yours. All I can say is that K-E Diet is a biggest loser’s hunger game,” Yang adds.

New Hot Fad Diet “K-E Diet” Is Atkins Diet in Feeding Tube for Rapid Weight loss
Extreme Dieting to Slim Down
A new extreme dieting , The K-E Diet, recently featured in the New York Times, involves having a nasogastric tube inserted through the nose and down into the esophagus for up to 10 days. The diet consists of a slow drip of protein and fat mixed with water, totaling 800 calories per day with no carbohydrates.
The 10-day weight loss treatment costs $1500, the Times reported, and can result in the shedding of up to 20 pounds through ketosis, where the body burns fat instead of sugar.
Dr. Oliver Di Pietro, who administers the diet in Bay Harbor Islands, Fla., told ABC News the diet involves no hospitalization or doctor supervision, simply a bag filled with the food solution and a tube inserted into the nose. This is simply wrong. It’s malpractice in disguise. Dr. Di Peitro should try it himself and lose weight himself.
According to a K-E dieter Melissa Gilson, “If they didn’t have the tube and just stopped eating they’d be considered anorexic, but under a doctor’s care and with a tube in their nose, it’s a crash diet.” Is that what a doctor’s license and ethic is selling for these days?
In another case reported by New York Times, Jessica Schnaider spent eight days on a feeding tube, a process that costs $1,500 for 10 days, so she would fit into her wedding gown when she marries in Argentina in June. She had the tube removed early because she was losing too much weight.
What in the world anyone has to do that? This is stupid Bridal Hunger Games.

Morris County NJ personal trainer and fitness expert Carey Yang shares the fat loss factor on how to indulge in Easter feast and still lose fat.
Lack of Motivation
With spring fever coming to alive, people are getting ready to get out of winter blues and weight gain. Easter is an important religious day marking the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter. However, modern Easter gets a bad rap in the world of overabundance in food consumption.
“Many people go through yo-yo cycles of fast, dieting and repentance followed by indulgence, overeating and guilt. It’s a never-ending fat-loss war,” said Carey Yang, , a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.
Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC — a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.
“If Easter is the day of resurrection, I hope people can see Easter as the day of renewal of commitment to their life and health,” Yang added.
Eating a protein-rich breakfast is one of the more effective strategies to jump-start your fat-burning metabolism for rapid fat loss.
A recent study by University of Kansas Medical Center analyzed the effect of a protein-rich breakfast on appetite and overall daily calorie consumption among teens who typically skip breakfast.
In the study, teens either consumed a protein-rich breakfast of solid foods, a protein-rich breakfast beverage (i.e. meal replacement shake), or a breakfast meal containing minimal protein. All meals were 500 calories each.
The results showed that the protein-rich breakfast groups (both solid food and beverage) faired better than an equal calorie breakfast not containing substantial protein. Further, it’s interesting to note that the solid food protein-rich breakfast group scored significantly higher than the protein-rich beverage group with regards to consuming less calories at lunch and feeling considerably more full after the breakfast meal.
“Based on this study, rating breakfast isn’t enough. The breakfast meal needs to contain ample protein to adequately affect satiation and overall caloric intake” Yang said. ” Secondly, a meal replacement shake breakfast doesn’t seem to have the same satiation and calorie intake benefits that a solid food protein-rich meal does.”
The ideal breakfast should be big, containing plenty of lean protein and carbohydrates. One should also avoid certain foods in their diet can sabotages their fat loss progress. Instead, they should eat certain foods to help accelerate their fat loss progress.
